Wellness Plan Frequently Asked Questions:
How much money will I save on the plans?
The basic plan will save, at a minimum, $14 per horse per year. A participant whose horse receives an extra fecal, a sheath clean, and has one emergency visit will save $97. Some clients will save over $150.
The performance and senior plans will save over $200 (a 25% savings).
How do I sign up?
It’s easy, and we handle everything but your signature! Just let us know (call/text/email) what plans you’d like, and we’ll send you a signature sheet! We’ll need a card on file for monthly billing, or you can write a check (or charge a card) if you’d like to pay for the whole year.
Are farm calls included?
Unfortunately, we’re not able to include farm calls. Since some of our clients are less than a mile away, and some are up to 30 miles away, there’s no way to include farm calls and have fair pricing for everyone.
What happens if my horse dies before the plan is up?
If the payments made toward the wellness plan have covered the cost of the services already rendered, your payments will be stopped. If the payments you have made don’t cover the full value of the services already performed, you can choose to finish the plan payments, or you can pay the difference between what we’ve done, and what you have paid. You can choose whichever is less!
What happens if I sell my horse before the plan is up?
If you are planning to sell your horse, it may not be wise to sign up for a wellness plan. If you do end up selling your horse while on the plan, you can cancel the plan.
If I don’t use the services on the plan, can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, we can’t issue refunds if you decide not to use your plan services. We will make every effort to schedule all the services covered by the plan, but if you decide you don’t need something, we just aren’t set up to refund your plan.
Why would I need the Performance Plan?
If your horse is primarily a riding horse, whether you compete, hunt, or just frequently trail ride, you may want to consider the performance plan.
This plan is based on our experience keeping athletic horses sound and comfortable for their jobs. With these horses, early detection of even the mildest lameness is key to preventing a major problem that could require a lay-up. By watching a horse go twice yearly, and flexing the joints on a regular basis, we can develop an intimate knowledge of your horse’s body and gaits. Subtle changes are easier to note, and if something is a tiny bit “off,” we can address it before it becomes an issue!
Why would I need the Senior Plan?
Everything on the senior plan is our “wish list” for caring for older horses. Like the performance plan, our goal with the senior plan is to detect problems *before* they become a big issue that affects the long-term health of your horse.
Since PPID (Cushing’s) is quite common in older horses, and insulin problems go hand-in-hand with PPID, we closely monitor our senior plan participants’ metabolic health. The basic bloodwork (CBC/ chemistry panel) detects organ dysfunction, inflammation and other problems.
Another potential source of trouble for older horses is their teeth! We added twice-yearly dentistry to the senior plan to help us detect, monitor and prevent problems like periodontal disease and cavities. This year, we’ve added incisor (front tooth) radiographs (x-rays) since we are finding more and more horses with EOTRH – a painful incisor problem that is best addressed early!
Can I sign my horse up for both the performance AND senior plan?
Yes! In fact, the “performing senior” plan is our absolute favorite. We love seeing our patients who are in their teens and twenties working, looking amazing, and loving life! The plans work great in combination to make sure these horses are fit, sound, and healthy!
