Routine Laboratory Testing

Routine laboratory testing may include the following services:

  • Coggins Testing- Foundation Equine offers all-digital Coggins tests. These test forms show photos of your horse instead of the old hand-drawn outlines. Digital Coggins test forms are emailed, in PDF form, for you to save on your computer for unlimited access at any time. Digital Coggins are available with regular turnaround time (about 3 days) or rapid turnaround (2 hour).

  • ACTH monitoring- Older horses are very commonly affected with Equine Cushings (Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction). Measuring the blood ACTH ("Cushings hormone") level can identify the onset of this condition, and can help monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

  • CBC/ Chemistry panel- Older horses or horses in rigorous training may benefit from routine bloodwork. Older horses are at risk for liver and kidney dysfuntion, and performance horses are at risk for electrolyte imbalance and kidney dysfunction. All horses receiving long-term anti-inflammatory therapy (like firocoxib), should have kidney values checked periodically.
